Assignments

Assignment #1

Tell us about your idea, how/ where will it be used and why is it important?
Favorite part and what would you do differently?

At first I did not know what symbols I wanted to create, but after brainstorming I came up with a theme. The theme were symbols for shopping malls because I like to shop for new outfits and accessories quite often. The symbols I created will be used at every mall throughout the world. These symbols are important because it's easy to know what they are and they're very helpful for many people. For people who do not know how to read or speak the English language, they can just look at the pictures and get to their destination. My favorite part of this assignment was that I had a chance to show my creative side. I was able to show people what I can do with Illustrator and show/tell them that I enjoy going to the mall on the weekends. If I had another chance to re-do this assignment, I would put my symbols on a different background shape like a star, circle, or hexagon instead of a plain square background.

Assignment #2:

1) What color scheme did you use?  Name the colors for the color scheme.
For the color scheme I used dark colors like purple for the shirt, a kind of cool blue color for the background and red for the lips. I also used the neutral colors- brown, black, tan, and beige.

2) What Illustrator tools did you use to complete the assignment.
The tools I used were the pen tool, the blob brush, the rectangle box, selection tool, zoom, fill, stroke, and blend.

3) Tell me about your work:  favorite part and least favorite part.
My favorite part was filling in the colors for my picture, but my least favorite part was creating the undertones for the picture to stand out.

4) What would you do differently next time.
Next time I would try to complete the assignment earlier so I would have time to add more features onto the picture like eyelashes and accessories.

Assignment #3:

1) What objects did you use and why?
Using Photoshop the objects I used to create my veggie face were the magic wand tool, quick tool, eraser tool, blend tool, and move tool. The magic wand tool and quick tool were used to delete the areas on the picture I did not want. The eraser tool was also used like the magic wand and quick tool- to erase certain areas on the picture. I used the blend tool to make my background color and the move tool was used to move the different layers around.

2) Tell me about your work:  favorite part and least favorite part.
My favorite part about this assignment was that I able to learn about photoshop in a short period of time and able to create a picture with it. I really liked arranging the different layers of fruits/veggies and stacking different layers on top of the other. My least favorite part was looking for images of fruits/veggies online and deciding which ones would fit well together.

3) What would you do differently next time
Next time, I would definitely look for the images earlier instead of waiting until the last minute and I would also add cool effects to the fruits/veggies.

Assignment #4:

Include a brief artist statement by answering the following questions:
1) Why did you pick this book?
I picked this book because the book cover looked plain and I wanted to create a better cover than the original one.

2) Tell me about your work:  favorite part and least favorite part.
My favorite part of this project was designing the book cover- finding images that would fit the theme of the book. My least favorite part was writing the summary and biography of the author because it was hard to describe the book's plot without actually reading it.

3) What would you do differently next time?

Next time I would definitely pick another and better background design and make my fonts look more 3 dimensional instead of the plain 2 dimensional.

4) Did you have any challenges? What did you learn?
My challenge during this project was measuring the actual book and trying to find the exact measurement on Photoshop. Hopefully my cover will fit perfectly on the actual book. I learned how to make pictures and words look nicer and less boring as well as having fun.
