Bio of author: 
Leo Tolstoy was a Russian author who was born in Tula Province, Russia on September 9, 1828. His first book, War and Peace was written in 1860 and because this book was a hit, Tolstoy continued writing novels. Tolstoy had four older brothers and mostly grew up with his aunt. During his childhood, Tolstoy experienced a lot of family deaths and because of this he decided to write about death in his novels. Besides War and Peace, Tolstoy also wrote Anna Karenina, The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Father Sergius, Resurrection, and many more fiction novels. Tolstoy eventually got married and had 10 children. Unfortunately though on November 20, 1910 in Astapovo, Russia, Leo Tolstoy died and War and Peace was one of the greatest novels he had ever written. 

Summary:
Based on a historical and romantic novel, War and Peace takes place in St. Petersburg, Russia in the year of 1805. The novel begins with two Russian friends, Nicholas Rostov and Andrew Bolkonski who go to war to fight against Napoleon, the leader of the French army. At the Battle of Austerlitz, Andrew becomes badly wounded, but luckily he survives. Meanwhile, Pierre Bezukhov, the son of one of the richest counts in Russia marries Helene Kuragina. But shortly after their marriage, Helene cheats on Pierre. As the story continues, Andrew and Nicholas return home from the war to witness the death of Andrew's wife, Lisa. Later on, Nicholas's family becomes indebted due to Nicholas's gambling so he is forced to marry someone rich, but Nicholas can't seem to love anyone else except Sonya. In the end, will Nicholas marry for wealth or for love and who will win the Battle of Borodino? In War and Peace, Tolstoy takes us on a journey to experience love, warfare, and death.
